Via Regia: Sonic Highway

Impulse Theater Festival Köln

The three part project “Via Regia” at this year's Impulse Theater Festival brings together the interdisciplinary artistic collective fachbetrieb rita grechen from Leipzig and the artist group MFK Bochum along the old trade route Via Regia. The two groups invite visitors to experience actions, interventions and performances at various locations.

“SONIC HIGHWAY” is the third and final part of the Via Regia project and takes place at a long-struggling site of incompatible mobility and municipal planning: the Gremberger Wäldchen. Preparations for the expansion of the A4 from six to eight lanes will soon begin on its southern side. Since 2020, the MFK Bochum group has been on the road, without a car. On foot, they linger on the edges of highways between the Ruhr region and Slovakia and encounter polyphonic paradoxes and realities along the increasingly dense European Road Network. Now they are stopping off in the remains of Cologne's oldest natural forest and inviting people to sit down in a place where they themselves are guests. The colleague group Easyeasy of Weimar opens a bar, a delegation of bikers from Saxony arrives and the last blasting engines cross the quiet Sunday afternoon hustle and bustle.

A production by MFK Bochum in cooperation with fachbetrieb rita grechen and in co-production with the Impulse Festival for Theater, Performance and Dance. Supported by the Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
